As children, we put on costumes to get some candy. Sometimes, the parents put a lot of imagination into what is worn. And they parade us around to show it off.
When we grow up, it is the houses that are decorated for all to see. Costumes are worn at parties to celebrate the season. It is a good time to put your cares aside.
Scary movies will be watched one after another. We can enjoy fake violence with no remorse. It is a break from the real kind we see plastered all over the news.
Imaginations run wild with the deep dark possibilities. As long as no one gets hurt, a fun time is had by all. Just pure exhilaration until the final bell tolls.
Afterwards, we have memories to look fondly upon. Those who become desensitized were not very sensitive to begin with. And then we wait for another year to pass.
This time of the year reminds us of how fun a good scare can be when it's all in fun and games. I still enjoy the hokey haunted houses and classic horror movies of my youth, I gain a lot of inspiration from the ambiance and fun of the season.

DeleteI think I picked up on this sort of business later on in my life, but with all things, I am pretty picky on how I go through with it. I never did like a meaningless scare. They tended to annoy me more than anything. What really got to me was when the scare game with a story. With the right touch, you can get anyone involved in a story. There's a craft to it. They do it in theme parks all the time. A thrill that comes from a pointless jump scare will only last for a moment, but one that comes from a creative mind could very well inspire for a lifetime.
ReplyDeleteThe spiritual is always more frightening than the physical. Its depth goes to your very heart. So, the inspiration is natural since they both come from the same place.
