Fear for fun

Being afraid can be fun, so long as there is no real danger to face. When the mind plays tricks, it can be quite comedic. When it is over, a few chuckles will be had.

As children, we put on costumes to get some candy. Sometimes, the parents put a lot of imagination into what is worn. And they parade us around to show it off.

When we grow up, it is the houses that are decorated for all to see. Costumes are worn at parties to celebrate the season. It is a good time to put your cares aside.

Scary movies will be watched one after another. We can enjoy fake violence with no remorse. It is a break from the real kind we see plastered all over the news.

Imaginations run wild with the deep dark possibilities. As long as no one gets hurt, a fun time is had by all. Just pure exhilaration until the final bell tolls.

Afterwards, we have memories to look fondly upon. Those who become desensitized were not very sensitive to begin with. And then we wait for another year to pass.

From the ashes

What do you do when your whole world has been pulled out from under you? Everything you worked for has gone up in smoke. Yet, life still stirs among the ashes.

These things do not determine who we are. Instead, we make them what they are. In the absence of a human heart, the entire world is a lot of wasted space.

But there is life after loss, and every diversion is an opportunity. The game is only over when you stop playing. Otherwise, there is still a chance to win.

The shortest distance between two points is a straight line. But life is full of twists and turns. For the obstacles we face are real and difficult to overcome.

Patience and perseverance are like waves continually beating against the shore. Solid stone will eventually give way. And what impedes will do so no longer.

Like the fiery mythological bird, we can rise again. Our strength has increased and we are wiser for the experience. We go on, leaving the shackles behind.

Full of surprises

People are full of surprises, though not always the pleasant kind. Just when you think they cannot stoop lower, they do. And things are worse for it.

Others will show an unexpected level of caring. They will look out for someone, even when no one is looking. And that is when you know it is real.

We should hope for the best, but prepare for the worst. Those who care will shine no matter the circumstance. It is the wicked who demand to be trusted.

There is a lot of evil in this world, but just a little good keeps it all in check. Because evil is merely nothing where something should be. Good has substance.

The rain falls on everyone. It can be a refreshing shower, or a depressing downpour. Attitude is the difference between a sunny day and a miserable outing.

Those who make a difference are not even aware of it. They are just being who they really are. And that is the most pleasant surprise there is.

Moment of truth

There are times when you must do something, but do not know what. Lives could hang in the balance. It is better to be wrong, than to do nothing.

To be afraid is to be human. The world is a great big dangerous place. If we wait until we know everything, all we care about will be lost.

For every action, there is someone to question it. The world is perishing due to neglect. Yet, there are plenty who criticize from the safety of the sidelines.

It is not easy to be the one who steps into the fray. You are sure to take a few beatings along the way. But to turn and run is to forsake what is most dear.

We cannot prepare for every eventuality. Instead, we must be ready to do what is required. Have a plan of action, and adapt to the unexpected.

No one knows what they will do until the moment is upon them. Only then do you find out who you truly are. Some will rise to the challenge, while others fall in despair.
