It is always best to want for nothing. That which is desired, can easily become a snare. The entrapped have no say in their affairs, they are merely left to the whims of others.
A person must provide for their own needs. Or else, someone will come along who has their own designs. Then, you become a means to fulfilling their ends.
If you cannot take care of yourself, you cannot take care of anyone else. If you have nothing, then your means to give are limited. Safeguard what little you possess.
This a harsh world, with more takers than givers. That is why you should not leave your fate in the hands of another. Pick yourself up and carry on.
Humans are social creatures, so it is easy to fall into a cycle of dependence. Just remember, what is given can be taken away. You will miss what you had when it is gone.
It is wrong to expect another to bear your burden. Helping others does not mean to do it for them. Instead, show them by your example that a person can stand on their own two feet.

Dead weight
There a lot of things in life that are simply dead weight. Pride will drag you down quicker than you can get a last gasp. One moment you are on the surface, and then you hit bottom.
The problem with thinking highly of yourself is that it is all in your head. If this ever gets out, it will be in the form of flatulence. Ah, the intoxicating aroma of crashing spirits!
Achievement is its own reward, and no fanfare is necessary. Do what you do because you love to do it. Be who you are, because you are a real person and not some painted doll.
Nothing is new, so no one will be impressed by your pomp. We have all seen and smelled it before. If you sow better, then you might be deserving of the praise you so desperately seek.
People do not learn, because the problem is within. They believe their own press, with the fake articles and gratuitous close-ups. Such will try hard to convince themselves the smile is real.
Those who are lifted up shall fall. Their remains will lie scattered as a lesson to the rest. Praise is transitory and not given freely, for there is a price to be paid and it is inflated indeed.

Alone in a crowd
Those who care will be there. No matter how far away, they will find a way to bridge the gulf that lies between. It is just a step across the expanse, for spirit knows no distance.
Enemies could not be farther apart. No matter how close they are physically, inside is a chasm that cannot be crossed. The wicked spend their lives in solitary confinement.
Loneliness comes from a lack of caring. Isolation sets in, and the person becomes a thing. They wander through the multitudes, alone in the crowd.
It is a cruel fate to be left to the mercy of one's thoughts. There is a desire to burn all bridges until one truly becomes an island. The point will come when no one can get in.
People are what they are, for better or worse. One can live among them or die alone. Never let what irritates you about a person ruin the enjoyment of your time with them.
The lonely must seek out those that care. Despite appearances, they still exist. Such will not be what is expected nor even what is hoped, but they just might be what you need.

Negative and positive
Good things happen when you least expect it. Dwelling upon the negative is easy, but that which is positive gives us energy to go on. Otherwise, the world would drain us dry.
People readily complain and are rarely grateful. Anyone can talk about their problems and you will listen to see if they are worse than yours. Alas, misery is without a ranking system.
If things are going good for someone, others will be jealous. They will invent every reason in the world to hate that person. And if you lie to yourself long enough, you start believing it.
One must do better to be better. Tearing others down does nothing to build you up. No matter how long you stand at the top of a cliff it will not make you taller.
Inflated egos are just waiting for the intrusion of a pin. In the ensuing explosion, illusions are shattered. All that remains will be the fragments of one's pride.
Rejoice with the joyful and grieve for the sad. Do not let your own state of affairs affect how you treat others. After all, what you desire has no bearing on what you deserve.

Sweet, soothing words
Be wary of those who claim to care. If someone really does, they will not try to convince you . Instead, they will do what they do and it will be difficult to deny what is proven by their actions.
People speak sweet, soothing words to deceive and disarm. Do not be confused by the smiles they wear. Or you will not see the knife as it approaches your back.
There are those who look like they are up to something. And it has nothing to do with the common good. Instead, their eyes are on the prize, waiting for the next fool to fall in the trap.
An honest person will rarely say what you want to hear. Liars are quick with the praise, laying it on thick. The water warms slowly, until the gullible are cooked.
If it sounds too good to be true, it is. Keep your eyes open and you will see the trap before stepping into it. Pay attention, and you will hear the betrayal in the tone of their voice.
When someone butters you up, they intend to make a meal. The worst thing for a liar is to be found out. Then, what you will find is how swiftly they depart.
