Fear itself

Being frightened can be fun. By recognizing our mortality we come to appreciate what it means to be alive. We breathe a sigh of relief having survived an imaginary fate.

Real fear cannot be so easily enjoyed. If someone truly means you harm, it becomes a matter of life and death. No one is guaranteed to walk away, nor even to crawl.

We are threatened by forces, both natural and otherwise.  Sometimes, all you can do is hope to survive. But no one is assured to live another day.

Fear can break us down if we let it. We cannot stop being afraid, but we can face that which gives us pause. Once confronted, it tends to cower away.

If the fear will not leave, it must be beaten. Reign in your rogue anxieties, for they only represent what could be. Ultimately, we have a hand in how things turn out.

Fear itself is among our most dangerous of foes. Those who give in have given themselves up to it. Darkness can only win if we extinguish the light.

  1. Fear is definitely something to either overcome or be controlled by. I can relate to the rogue anxieties as I've had to overcome social anxieties, but in hindsight I see that the fear was only from me not being comfortable with myself.

    1. We all have things that we fear, Chris. Anxieties abound and we must look within to overcome them. Otherwise, we will remain frozen in place.

  2. Dude, this is a great blog. I bang my head on my desk every week wanting blogs like this. I even like the part about the light at the end. Fear can totally be used in the inspiration of creativity. When a person writes a horror about something that they fear, it comes out far clearer and more personal than otherwise. In a way, it is also a way of overcoming it. I know this person who wont watch anything with cockroaches in them. What a sad way to go. She could make something of it, but instead, she has become a slave to her own fear.

    1. Fear is counterproductive when allowed to rule, Tommy. If you harness it, wonderful things can spring forth. Sadly, most refuse to take a long hard look at themselves.
